How Can I love When I’m hurt?

Are you hurting? Is your heart broken and your marriage teetering on the brink of demise? I’ve been there.

Many years ago, when my husband came to me and told me he wanted a divorce, my first instinct was to take it to the Lord. In those quiet moments of prayer and reflection, Jesus taught me how to love my husband with His love, not just my own. He built us up with His love which covers a multitude of sins.

In those moments of prayer and reflection, God showed me that He created my husband in His own image. My task was to love my husband as the Lord loved him, in the spirit, not in the flesh as the world does. My husband’s spirit was perfect and worthy to be loved.

Yes, I know the hurt you’re feeling. I was there, on my knees through it. In those moments I gave myself into total submission to God. I released myself, my husband, my family, all that I valued to Him. In the beginning I tried to take them back, but the Father corrected me, “La Jana, you gave them to me. Leave them here.” God’s perfect love covered me.

Jesus commanded me to love with no strings attached. It wasn’t easy, but I did what He commanded. Jesus came to restore my marriage and give us a more abundant life. His perfect love cast out fear and gave me back security in knowing that God’s love never ceases.

With our eyes focused on God and our hearts open to Him doing some real housekeeping in our lives, my husband and I began to work on mending. Jesus restored my marriage. He gave me back a man who loves the Lord and lifts Jesus up daily. Today we work together to share that gift with other couples, to help them open their hearts to God and turn their brokenness over to Him completely.

Challenge: Are you placing all you value in God’s hands? This week turn it over and don’t grab it back.
